Who are we?

Institute of Risk Management Tanzania (IRMT) is a professional organization established under the Chapter 212 of Laws of Tanzania with mandate to promote the common interest and advance theory and practice of risk management of persons carrying on risk management profession in the United Republic of Tanzania. Ancillary to this, to conduct review classes, forums, seminars, workshops and examinations in the profession of risk management. In executing such responsibilities, IRMT conducts risk management examinations twice in a year during the month of December and June

Objectives of IRMT

  • to promote the common interest, advance the theory and practice of risk management of persons carrying on the risk management profession throughout the United Republic of Tanzania;
  • to conduct review classes, forums, seminars, workshops and examinations in the profession of risk management
  • to preserve at all times the professional and independence of members of the risk management profession;
  • to insist upon high standard of professional behavior on the part of members of the Institute and to preserve and maintain the integrity and status of the profession, and to take any step which may be thought necessary to stop or prevent dishonorable conduct and practices by members, for this purpose to hold enquiries into the conduct of members and to take disciplinary action against members, including the termination of their membership and their expulsion from the Institution;
  • to provide for research into risk management and kindred matters and to provide members with information on developments in professional thought and methods both inside and outside the United Republic of Tanzania
  • to publish and distribute to members and other interested parties, risk related materials, books, pamphlets or other publications relating to professional affairs of the institute or of its members or relating to the risk management profession;

Who can be a member?

Any person who is practicing risk management profession can be a member of the Institute of Risk Management of Tanzania.

The membership categories are as follows

  • Affiliate member – a person with interest in risk management practice
  • Student member – any person who is a student of higher learning institution and is interested on issues related to risk management
  • Graduate member – Any person who is practicing risk management and has passed the Institute Foundation or Professional examination or equivalent global qualification but has not attained minimum two years practical experience
  • Certified Risk Management Member – Any person who has passed the Institute’s professional examination or acquired equivalent qualification and has at least two years verifiable practical experience in risk management.
  • Corporate Member –Any organization or institution that promotes and cherish ideas of risk managements or pays for membership fees for employees.

How to become a member?
IRMT registration requires a person to meet the following criteria

  • Any organization or institution that promotes ideals of risk management or pays for membership fees for employees can be registered as Corporate member of the Institute
  • Any person with at least a Diploma or Degree from a recognized Institute with no back ground in Risk Management but should sit and pass the Institute’s Risk Management Foundation Examination to be recognized as Certified Risk Management Technician.
  • Any Person with at least a degree in subjects related to risk management with at least two year practical experience but should sit and pass the Institute’s Risk Management Professional Examination.
  • Any person with professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, CISA, CFE, CPSP, CIA, or other equivalent professional qualification will be exempted from foundation stage and admitted to sit for final professional examination.
  • Any person with risk professional certification such as G31000, CRM, CRMA, GRMI or other global risk certification will be admitted to membership after passing the Institute of risk management competency examination.
